You could always add an inline valve to the air line.

Not sure if you fixed this problem or not yet, but I found that if the air pump was set to high, it just gurgled and didn’t work. Must have had something to do with breaking the tension created by a steady stream of bubbles running up the tube. Too much air created too much [...]
