Dear Deanne, The comment I recieved to my Google account through google was a lovely thought. It was just a little hard for me to fully and completly understand. But, I do appreciate it !!! I hope your windowfarm problems are being worked out. I believe this site with it’s work is a GOOD and HONEST approach to helping our plannet earth be a better place to live and the site seems to be dedicated to working from the thought of improving our windowfarms. Christian Blessings to you also. Sylvia

Hi Matt There is a great post by Brian Marshal here just near this post, that has some great lighting suggestions. My experience has been that my plants were much happier when I added two lights. They turn their leaves toward those lights. Later on I plan to add more lighting, but I did not have supplemental lighting for a while. When I go to the south room (big big window) the sun will be better. I hope you enjoy your windowfarm as much as I enjoy mine. Sylvia from Manchester Indiana.

In reply to - Matt GIlmore posted an update in the group Seattle: Does anyone have to supplement their window farm with extra lights? I have just started mine and I’m hoping there will be enough light, at least in the summer months, to grow regional vegetables. · View

Hi Brian, Your drawing is very helpful – I have not tried for heigth though – just want my system to work well. One air outlet supplies two lines now with air flow adjusters on the lines. It would be nice if I was a whiz at this but I can share my personal experience. I do have some [common sense] about mechanical things. 9 plants in my system now and some are growing at a fantastic rate – others not as well, but it is a joy to me. I have to sit sometimes (physical handicapp – bad leg) and just hope I am not too much of a nusance on the site here. I love the work everyone has done and wish I were smarter about the computer so I could help with this awful spam. Happy windowfarming. Sylvia

Hello Marcus, I’m new (since December) but my experience has been — when the water did not work properly there was an air leak somewhere. I experimented with sealing all leaks and putting my air intake deeper or more shallow. Also when the pipe had too many curves it did not work as good. There is a possibility of a bad pump though. Bummer!!! I hope you can figure out what is wrong. MY WINDOWFARM HAS BEEN A JOY FOR ME and I would have been greatly discouraged if my first system had not worked. Sylvia – Manchester IN USA

In reply to - Marcus posted an update in the group Seattle: I bought a Petco 9902 pump, and I suspect it is too weak. I think this because water isn’t circulating to the top. The recommended Petco 9903 has been discontinued. Does anyone know of a store in Seattle to purchase an alternative pump that will be sufficiently [...] · View

Hi John, WOW I like it. The longer I have me system up the more I realize the importance of being able to move the plants around more easily. In my small window I find I need to use extra lighting. Happy Windowfarming. Sylvia

Hi George, My experience with transplanting (in soil pots or in my aquaponic system) has been that all roots loose some of their root hairs and even large parts of their drawing ability. I always trim back some of the upper plants to make a balance between the roots and tops. Hope you have fun [...]

Hi Alfred I just saw your question tonight and wanted to say – I have been using small goldfish purchased at WalMmart. I had 2 goldfish at first with one column – then I got 2 more and now with two column and 8 plants I have 8 – small ones. My tank is 14 gallons. I have been surprised that the goldfish and plants are both doing as well as they are. Goldfish are dirtier than some fish and I clean the tank once a week with a siphon type of setup and do not want to disturb the bacteria too much. As the system gets older I hope the plants clean the water better. My two tomato plants are growing very fast and one of the plants has blooms on it. Hope you are able to get the setup you like. I started planning my windowfarm in Decamber and finally got it up a couple of months later. Good luck with your work. Sylvia Manchester IN USA

Hi Ryan, I became a member in December and because of construction at home, was not able to get my farm started for a while. Then I had lots of experince cutting and fixing the system in a north window. Then I moved it to (west south west) window where it got more sun. It is strictly your personal choice about moving. BUT IF I WERE going to move that far I personally would go ahead and start one in my present location FOR THE EXPERIENCE. Then when moving time came I would move the air pump and air pipes but maybe not the plants and bottles. It all depends on your traveling accommodations. If you are able to understand the drawings and the setup I would go ahead and get the experience. I do not believe the windowfarm kits have shipped yet due to some manufacturing delay. I did have a wonderful time watching others working with their setups – and I learned a lot studying things. windowfarms has some wonderful members. Sylvia form Manchester Indiana USA

Hi Mrtin, Your window looks great. I got something from a windowfarmer on the beginners site and he said that iron deficiency was common in aquaponics. I did add lights to my window and my plants are a little greener again but I am not sure what helped them. He said that chelated iron is safe for fish in small amounts, but I do not know what a small amount is, so I have just been working with the system mechanics to get it working better. My goldfish are growing.

After looking at your nutrient tank I decided to put more of my large pvc pipes and connections in my tank. The goldfish seemed to like the large pipe I had in the tank. They are finally beginning to appreciate me now that they know I am the face that feeds them. At first they ran from me.

May is the season for planting outside in this area and I am thinking of putting out some plants on the porch in large containers but I just cannot work in the outdoor garden ay more. This windowfarm is a joy to me.

    Happy windwfarming. Sylvia
