Well, bad news. I had everything going great, then a couple of fronts and a week of below freezing temps did a number on several plants. All of my squash, one pepper, and nearly my rosemary all died at once. One pepper is still (barely) alive, and my greens had to be removed because they obscured my vision. I still want to research a few different plants while it is fairly cool, but I may have to wait until after february is over before I put any new plants out. If anyone has some ideas, I am more than willing to hear them.

Just had a near freeze last night, and the peppers did just fine!. The cold was kept out for the most part by the car’s insulation. I looked out this morning and saw the leaves were green, the stalks tall, and the flowers full. The second I get another pepper to grow I will post some picks. Stay tuned!

Well, it has been a couple of weeks, and the peppers are doing great! I have two self-watering pots in my cup holders, and have been keeping the car in the bright sun as much as I can. The moisture and temperature are tricky to control, but my peppers are VERY happy. These were both stunted, sickly looking peppers I started in february. Now they actually have fruit forming! Look forward to some pics later on this week. Happy thanksgiving guys!

Looks like the cooler weather was the trick! I put out a sickly pepper last week in a cupholder. After only a few days, it actually perked up more than it had outside! This is a good sign. I will post pics soon.

I have a pretty good assortment of plants growing now (even though it is winter), and I have just had some breakthroughs! Spider plants and philodendrons are both supposed to start out as hydroponics, but with certain criteria being met can continue on as such. i work in an office building with plenty of fluorescent lighting even down on the desks. This coupled with the regulated temperature makes for awesome year round growing!

It may not be a vegetable crop of any sort, but I am going to try growing a spider plant aquaponically. The idea is to set up a vase with the plant growing hydroponically. Once it it stable and happy, I will add a fish for entertainment and nutrients. This is a large vase, but it will still only be able to house one betta/gourami. I will post as this develops.

The weather is cooling off again, so I will once again attempt the bizarre. I generally have enough sunlight to grow things, and the inside of my car is always warmer than outside. I will try again to rig something up to allow me to fool plants into growing in my car. For those who are new, I drive a PT cruiser and live in texas. I had great success over the summer with a number of container plants. Hopefully I can continue through the winter with my means of conveyance. Stay tuned!

Well, it may be the store-bought set, it may be that i am in texas; whatever the reason, my rig only sprouted one plant. At least I can say this system is possible, but needs certain conditions to work. The temperature and sunlight are the main issues that i saw. with a greenhouse rig, you don’t have to water as much, but the plants overheat and lose the light they need to thrive. Has anyone else tried and gotten different results?

I just started my little experiment: I bought a jiffy brand greenhouse start kit, and planted some money plant seeds I got on earth day. They are starting out in my PT Cruiser with the windows rolled down slightly to vent. It is an old car, so damage won’t be as noticeable. I will make sure to keep everyone tuned in to developments as they happen. Wish my plants luck!

I can imagine a big yellow school bus could work, with all the windows available. Could be a community project garden.
