@frankheuij You will want to find out what types of berries you bought. The types are June bearing, ever bearing, and day neutral. Google the terms to see what they mean. Mine are day neutral because that just so happened to be what was in my backyard. These terms usually relate to the outdoor soil based [...]

Without bees or wind, chances are that the strawberry flower won’t get pollinated completely. Worst case nothing will happen or it may get partial pollinated by itself and you get a deformed berry like this. http://our.windowfarms.org/2012/04/15/strawberry-at-over-two-years/ I have been using a Q-tip to pollinate them and I have heard others using small paint brushes. Gently [...]

That does not look that bad anymore, but remember strawberries will need to be pollinated by hand

Could be too much water as strawberries do not like to be wet, but It could just be the shock of being transplanted. I am no expert, but can just share my experience with them. I transplanted a couple into a WF a few years ago from my backyard. I rinsed the dirt and put [...]

My original strawbeerries are now over two years old. This link will take you back to all the older posts. http://our.windowfarms.org/2011/10/14/cutting-the-cord-onnew-born-strawberry/Of the three original plants, two are still alive. The one plant I had in the yogart container, I had taken out to put in the new born that I highlighted in the last post. However, it [...]

PH of 6 should be fine for peppers and most hydroponics. http://our.windowfarms.org/2012/02/10/plants-table/ I have jalepeno and red peppers and that is where I keep the ph so it must be something else. http://our.windowfarms.org/2012/01/21/jalapeno-at-1-year-and-doing-some-pruning/ Go into some more details related to nutrients, type of water, water schedule, etc and maybe someone else has seen this. Brian, you were talking about runner beans in another post and I remembered and hunted down this post. I found this dwarf variety. Is this what you had in mind? I might give it a try.

The jalapeno has been really good and I hope that applies to the whole pepper family as I am going to do a mini-red pepper next. It just took a long time to start producing any fruit. http://our.windowfarms.org/2012/01/21/jalapeno-at-1-year-and-doing-some-pruning/ I thought the green beans did really well and I wonder what would have happened if I [...]

Anyone wanting to do any serious research into airlift pumps should take a look at these. Most research is for very large scale stuff and I’m not sure if the equations scale down to our level.

Tap water can be used, though you may want to check the pH first it should be slightly acidic for most plant purposes (just below 7.0). In terms of fertilizer, there are a wide variety of products available, I would recommend looking into hydroponic suppliers in your area, I like foxfarm all organic/ natural product [...]
