I’m working on my first aquaponics set-up. Letting my 6 gallon nano tank regulate it’s water at the moment. I’m looking into affordable options to get water quality data into an arduino. Not finding much. ISE probes seem delicate and expensive, and photometers are expensive and require chemical reagents. A DIY photometer seems possible though chemical reagents would need to be purchased, which is not a sustainable model for the long haul. Any DIY probe projects that sacrifice moderate accuracy for affordability and durability?

I too am working on my first aquaponics set-up and I am also interested in experimenting with Arduino for just about anything in my house (including my back-up power supply, pellet stove heater and aquaponics system). Right now I have a 50 gallon Freshwater Tropical Tank set-up next to (but not underneath) my windowfarm. It is operating with a standard aquarium filter for the time being. I successfully constructed the Version 2.0 Airlift column a few weeks ago and am just now finishing a two column Modular Airlift V3.0 both of which are running off of recycled water from the fishtank for the time being. I have been using marine plant food as a medium as I want to find plants that will grow in similar water as comes out of the aquarium before I finally figure out a way to connect them… Do keep me posted on your findings:)

Hello, I’m working on my first set-up. Letting my 6 gallon nano tank regulate it’s water at the moment. Will also be delving into automating maintenance via an Arduino microcontroller.

hello! what do you have planned to stock your tank? what maintenance will your arduino do? automatic topping off of evaporated water? controlling the pumps? i think there even is the possibility to attach a PH probe to it.

Wow! Cool! I’d seen a setup where a computer was used to run the aquaponics on a greenhouse. I hadn’t had time yet to do any research on how it worked so you’ve given me a nice let up. Thanks!
