Hello,
How did the pump work out for you?

It looks like a nice idea, but how practical it is, I have my doubt about. Why not start with a simple form to define a WF, with fields for type(Hydroponic, Aquaphonic, custom), technology(V1, V2, V2mod, V3 and so on), placement(south/east/west/north) and a few other fields, with a larger description field and possibility of either [...]

If you have a pmp with 2 outlets, and are only using one, you may improve the efficiency of the pump by closing the other outlet. Just put a piece of tube on it and cclamp it shut. A lot of these pumps have two outlets for each ‘motor’ and if they run ‘unbalanced’ regarding [...]

It’s probably best for the plants to have the opening facing towards the window, but having them facing the other way makes it easier to insert and remoe plants in the WF.

Trygve Henriksen commented on the blog post Smaller Bottles 10 months, 2 weeks ago · View
You can use any size you want. The net cups are there mostly to make it easier to swap out plants. If you find smaller net cups that fits a smaller bottle, that’s good. If not, maybe some sort of yoghurt cup or other plastic cup can be holed to make a replacement net cup. [...]

The ‘large reservoir & siphons’ could work, but… Take a measurement of how much liquid you use each day. Then mark the ‘max fill’ level of the reservoir, and also the ‘low’ level. That is the max variation liquid that can happen to your large reservoir. I use about .5L on each reservoir each day(for [...]

Well, you could reduce the evaporation by completely sealing the farm in transparent plastic. Then, sooner or later, the humidity in the air inside will reach saturation and won’t be able to absorb more moisture… Whether or not your plants will survive this, though, depends on what moisture level you end up with, and how [...]

Trygve Henriksen commented on the blog post Connecting Air Needles & Tubing 11 months, 3 weeks ago · View
Yes, the needles are stuck into the side of the rigid tubing, and yes, thee airlines is inserted at the top and turned into a loop below the point where the needles are inserted into the airlift tube. This is basically the ‘V2 Airlift’ design. There’s also an ‘V2 Modified’ design. Then you still keep [...]

Try spraying on a layer of gray primer first, then two coats of white paint. LEttuce is always a choice. Just pick one you like the taste of. Tomatoes and bell-peppers(I have about a dozen fruits on my 4 plants right now… ) all seems to work fine. For one reason or another, my mini [...]

Trygve Henriksen commented on the blog post How often do I add nutrients? 1 year ago · View
The usual is to completely replace the nutrients every week or so. Longer if you only have small plants or a large reservoir, but usually no longer than two weeks. Just because there’s still some colour in the water doesn’t mean that there’s still anything usable left for the plants. The best would be to [...]

Eg bruker vanlige 1.5L brusflasker med rund bunn.
(Firstprice brus og andre billigbrus har en annen bunn og mye tynnere vegger, så de tåler mindre mishandling.) -

Spotted a cheap TDS meter on a website.
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/0-7-lcd-tds-water-tester-2-x-lr44-80940
$11.50 including shipping worldwide.
I wouldn’t expect much in accuracy of it, but at that price…Yes, the site is ’legit’. I’ve shopped there at least a dozen times myself. They only accept PayPal payments, though, and service if an item is temporarily out of stock really sucks. (Never buy any item listed as ’out of stock’ or ’temporarily out of stock’ as they most likely never get it in again. Any items with a lead-time of a week is also suspicious. And whatever you do, never buy memory from them.)

Trygve Henriksen commented on the blog post How to: WF Version 2.0 Standing AirLift Mini (SAM) 1 year ago · View
This is the V2 design, and is mostly abandoned for other solutions, the V3 among them. One way of getting the V2 to improve efficiency is to go with the ‘V2 modified’ design. In the V2 design you inject air into the lift tubes through the needles. If you cut the air tubes about 4 [...]

It could be the printer fudging it, the program you use to print it or anything… (Scaling error because of Paper size mismatch, scaling to fit margins and a lot of other problems) Or it may be that the bottles you’e using isn’t the exact same type as the template was made for? Anyway, just [...]

My peppers seems to have been satisfied with the air blast from my air-to-air heat-pump this winter and spring. (I have 12 bell peppers in various stages of growth on my 4 plants at the moment. ) Best tip? Start them as seeds in soil, then transplant them when they’re at least 4″ tall. You [...]

If you’re running anything close to the standard design WF, you’ll need to replace the nutes about once every week. There’ll still be colour in the water, but the plants will have used up anything they can use. You should probably consider hetting a ‘ppm’ meter sooner or later. (PPM = Particles per Million) A [...]

Trygve Henriksen commented on the blog post What plants grow best? 1 year ago · View
Peas and peppers should work fine. Catnip should also work(Isn’t that a grass?). If you’re running the right concentration of nutrients, the killers are usually too little water(run for longer, with shorter intervals), very low air humidity(plants really don’t like 30% or lower… ) or too high temperature/too much sun. As these are seedlings, how [...]
