Oh, I also have access to several (organic) solutions that encourage the growth of mycorrhizal fungi and beneficial bacteria.

Hello everyone, this will be my first windowfarm system. I am trying to conduct an experiment to determine what the best homemade nutrient solution will be. Ultimately, I want to refine this knowledge so that I can bring the recycled materials version of hydroponics to developing countries, where I think these ideas can really shake [...]

  • I’m considering making three three-bottle systems this summer to test different nutrient solutions. One will be a constant, which I will use the 16 16 16 recommended in the D-I-Y instructions. With the other, I plan on using vermicomposting or using worm castings described in this post (http://our.windowfarms.org/2010/05/21/free-nutrient-solution/). In the last, I am going to [...]

I’m considering making three three-bottle systems this summer to test different nutrient solutions. One will be a constant, which I will use the 16 16 16 recommended in the D-I-Y instructions. With the other, I plan on using vermicomposting or using worm castings described in this post (http://our.windowfarms.org/2010/05/21/free-nutrient-solution/). In the last, I am going to try a variation using urine. This article describes how urine can be utilized for hydroponics (http://www.usu.edu/cpl/PDF/Dawn’s%20ICES%20paper%201999.pdf).

Do you all have any advice for what I should add, how I should implement the system, or any comments on the use of urine in hydroponics at all?

That sounds cool, I look forward to seeing your urine results and commentary… Start a Post and keep it up to date :)
I just started vermicomposting recently, i will be adding updates soon.

I know ammonia is good for most plants… I would be wary of legumes, I have burned peas with bloodmeal, which decomposes to ammonia rapidly.
