Sorry I didn’t get back to you in time for your sustainability fair! How did it go?
I’m moving more towards passive hydroponics (aquaculture) … I’ll do a post about it soon.
In reply to - Jennifer Wright posted an update in the group Edmonton, Alberta: Are there any people or organizations involved with Windowfarms near Edmonton? We are hosting a Sustainability fair the 8th and 9th of March and looking for exhibitors. Please message me if you know of anyone who may want to participate. · View -

Hi Ed! Thanks for the info – that’s cool stuff. I’m actually trying a bit of a different route now … my dripper works well for seedlings, but as the plants get bigger they seem to need more water and I can’t keep up. I took some of my seedlings (and some garlic) and put [...]

Well, it’s attached in ways that can be undone if you moved, though there’s a few holes.
The supports in the window are screwed to the frame, as is the hanger that holds the water source. See more here: http://blog.applejackcreek.com/2012/01/windowfarms-grow-food-all-year.html
In reply to - Lonna posted an update in the group Edmonton, Alberta : I’m west of Edmonton and have just completed a gravity fed (i.e. manual recirculating, I live on a farm so there is almost always someone here) windowfarm using vinyl gutters to make 3 wide beds that drain one to the next (rather than tall columns). It’s in the [...] · View -

Beautiful Windowfarms: 1 year, 4 months ago · ViewI just built a variant on a windowfarm in my very wide (7’) south facing window. It is more horizontal than vertical, using vinyl window gutters as troughs to hold plants in net pots, as there was no way my husband would put up with pop bottles (and I wanted to grow a lot of plants as well). It is manually powered (I live on a farm, someone’s here anyway so refilling the reservoir by hand is no trouble) though a pump could be added. Just getting started, but so far there’s no drips where there shouldn’t be, there are drips where there should be, and there are 3 seedlings getting their roots wet, while other seedlings sprout in rockwool cubes. Post has been put up with pictures. http://our.windowfarms.org/?p=16540

Windowfarms are indeed a very cool idea. I have a really (really) big front window that is just begging to have some plants in it: it faces south, gets full sun all day, and is behind the couch so if there were plants there they wouldn’t be in anybody’s way and would add some nice visual [...]

Edmonton, Alberta: 1 year, 4 months ago · ViewI’m west of Edmonton and have just completed a gravity fed (i.e. manual recirculating, I live on a farm so there is almost always someone here) windowfarm using vinyl gutters to make 3 wide beds that drain one to the next (rather than tall columns). It’s in the window, it’s hydroponic, and it’ll grow veggies, so I consider it a windowfarm even if it is a bit of a variant. Will be posting about it shortly.
Is this window farm of yours portable?

Would you be able and willing to bring it, or a mini version to Grant MacEwan next week as an exhibit? Please call me either way, I’ve been handed an event that was not-so-pre-planned to finish. Thank you. 780.935.5847
