@River – I’d love to see some pictures! So happy somebody succeeded in making their own version. I like the idea of the elbow joints and stuff, so I’m looking forward to seeing your adjustments. Who knows, I may “upgrade” mine after your example. ;) I hope it will continue working for you, because with the [...]

@Eileen – I’ve been keeping an eye on your ventures, always fun to see your videos. :D That alfalfa looks yummy, been thinking to change my lower bottles to sprouters like yours. That way there will be chance of roots growing in my watertube any more (the tomatoes did that when we went on holiday, when [...]

I think the pulser is finished now. :D It’s been dripping steadily since the 6th of June. I can keep the air-pump on it’s lowest setting now too. Until I’m left with 4cm of water that is, then I turn up the pump up to just under half, prepare a big bucket with water to [...]

ThumbnailThe weak point of my low water level pulser design has always been the single part that actually made it work so well: the check valve. If you don’t know what this low water level pulser thing is, you can visit the post/blog on windowfarms which I try to keep up to date right here: http://our.windowfarms.org/2011/01/26/low-water-level-pulser-pump/ This [...]

I’m curious… Did you get it to work ?

If you’re interested: (I updated my blog, had some rust issues with the airlift, so fixed it. ;)

@Dayal Khalsa – yes it can lay horizontally. And those check valves do come in different qualities. I’ve noticed one airlift working “not so good” than the others, and that’s the one with a different check valve that took more force to blow through. So I can recommend trying to find some that aren’t “too” [...]

Good luck hardware junkie, I’ll be looking forward to see what you made of it. :D Btw, the most important change I made was moving the hole for the air-tube entrance, very close to the check valve instead of in the middle of the tube. If you want to lay it flat at the bottom [...]

  • Mieke commented on the blog post air pump vs. water pump?   2 years, 3 months ago · View

I initially didn’t have much luck either with the airlift pumps. Mainly because I wanted it to work in a waterlevel that was way too low for them. And I also didn’t fancy a waterpump for the same reason, since those things do take up their space and I needed a “small” solution. But now [...]

@James Nutter – I’ll see what I can do for you with that draw on diagram. For now there’s the video and extra picture added. At least today is friday, so when I stay up again ’till 1am tonight to mess around with this, it won’t be so painful the next day. ;) @Eileen – thanks [...]

Thanks for the interest and positive replies. :) The one I have running now, takes the water up 1m 40cm before dripping it in the top bottle. I put a bin with water ready to do some tests for taking it up over 2 meters. Not sure how the system will perform, but I’ll let [...]

  • ThumbnailBLOG ENTRY 7 – THE CUCUMBERS LIVE Thursday, 23rd June 2011 After the big scare, the cucumbers decided they wanted to live. It was definitely the food level in the water. I lost all of my “newly born” cucumbers which are wilting away further like little raisins. But the two big ones are going strong again and [...]
