the long tubing does help greatly. also i found extremely helpful is having the reservoir above floor level but the top of the reservoir water a tad below the last bottle on the window farm. this helps increase water pressure to reduce backup. once the farm is set up and running well, it seems aside [...]

Can you draw a diagram of how the tubing is done? Its hard to see the details from the film. Thanks :)

In reply to - Nori Lamphere commented on the blog post Ebb & Flow Window Farm In support of your “flood and drain is more effective” school of thought, I have a plant wall with a flood and drain gutter. The plants in the gutter are bigger, more robust, faster growing than the plants in the wall. This is going to [...] · View

Im so going to try this! I was wondering about the water distribution in the windowfarm and this seems like a perfect idea! How often is it suppose to run and for how long? I really like this idea! Genius! Maybe ill modify my windowfarm before all the new sprouts get too big.

  • Wow! It looks like a beautiful and colorful jungle! Nice! What kind of amber bottles did you use?

Just checked. Already have seeds germinating on some plants – thai basil, stevia, sweet basil, scallions, and a couple others! Will see if they grow into “real” plants!

Thanks! It was sooooo much cheaper cutting up fabric than spray painting! Its so nice to wake in the morning and not have to worry about it not running. Sooo easy to test the water and change/refill water too! I m loving it, waiting on seed germination in the system. The chamomile and cat nip [...]

As with fish I use to breed, discus fish that prefer acid water like the plants, I always dropped the pH with acid (muriatic or also called hypochloric) found in pool supply companies here in the USA. Since this stuff is really dangerously corrosive if spilled however, general hydroponics made a pH down w the same acid but much safer. I do not know how they dilute it but it works and is cheap and will last a long time. If its safe for fish it def safe for plants IMHO (inalaays kepts my fish tanks clean as well so do not know about the bonding it will have in densely organic water). Its worth checking out. My plants in the system prefer general hydroponic fertilizer three part solutions and unused their pH down w out issue. But again, I am brand new w growing plants sooo….

In reply to - tedi posted an update in the group For Beginners : Hi, we started our windowfarm one week ago and the lettuces were growing brilliant but suddenly one day in the morning we found that something wrong is happening and the leaves seems to be dying. The PH is 7-7,5, we put 1 teaspon of nutrientes (guano) each 3 [...] · View

Thank you! It’s started out as a spray painting venture and bc I was like “no way!” I took the fabric and covered them. I really didn’t think t would turn out nice! I got lucky!

ThumbnailLink to video: watch?v=GVZFUfDyPn0&feature=youtube_gdata_player This is my first window farm attempt. I first made the system as per original instructions and ended up with blisters trying to get the needles in the check valves that came with the recommended air pump (petco 4 outlet). So I found posts of the T drain. It worked well when [...]
