Only time will tell! I can’t wait to see how our farms fair this winter. I also might be moving within the next couple of months.. I’ll have to find a clever way to move the windowfarm without damaging the plants, or disassembling it.

Nice setup you have there! I too am concerned how my plants will do through the winter… I might have to add some compact fluorescent bulbs in the middle. So far the only leaves the plants have lost are their initial sprouting leaves. I hope they don’t start to die! They look so good right [...]

I am growing Oregano, Parsly, Basil, and Lemon Mint. The airlift works really well, even on the lowest setting for my air pump. The only problems I have encountered is the air needle getting clogged and the tub not covering the needle enough. If it isn’t far enough down the tube then it just blows [...]

Beautiful plants! For the herbs and leafy greens, I suppose you can just pluck off leaves when you want to use them. The plant should continue growing
You don’t need to cut the whole thing down just to harvest it. Just trim off the leaves you want to use with a clean pair of [...] -

All of my seedlings have been moved to my window farm! The herbs are still super tiny, but growing quickly. The peas and beans are by far the biggest plants and are growing beautifully. So far I have had only a few minor hiccups with this setup. Occasionally the air needle will get clogged and [...] -

I got all my tubes from home depot. The flexible tube being the one with the larger OD, and the rigid tube being the one with the same OD as the flexible tube’s ID. Does that make sense? I believe I found both very close to each other in the plumbing area. I think they [...]

We had an unusually warm summer here in Chicago. My boyfriend closed my dark curtains on one of the particularly hot days, leaving my plants in between the window and the curtains. The space got very hot in a very short period of time, which fried the plants. As long as the plants are in [...]

So, I had my first window farm column going for a good month before I went on vacation and my boyfriend cooked the plants in the window.
So this past week I placed an order from seedsnow.com for 10 different kinds of non GMO veggies and herbs. This weekend I got the seeds, started germinating, [...] -

I crocheted it separately and slipped it on before assembling everything. I suppose you could crochet around the bottle, but it might be a little difficult.

Great idea with the crocheted nylon! Might have to steal that idea
I crocheted cozies for my bottles and I really like how they look. Crocheting for 63 years! Wow! I’ve only been at it for about 5 years.@karote Hi Steffe – I used the term nylon thread when I should have said nylon cord much bigger than thread. When I purchased more cord I read about it thoroughly on the paper surrounding the cord, and it did mention something about bright sun being hard on it – but I figured with it being so easy for me to crochet I could make new chain’s each yea or 2. I also have bottles like yours hooked to the nylon cord with an S hook and it is so easy for me to work with the individual bottles. I just saw your pis and love them. Sylvia Manchester Indiana USA

Its actually crocheted! I’ve been crocheting for a few years now, so I can make these little guys pretty fast. I don’t have a pattern, but if you have experience crocheting it is quite easy to make a form that fits your specific bottles.

I discovered this site a few months ago when I was checking out old kickstarter projects. The DIY is awesome and so thorough! After studying it for a few days I went out to gather my materials. Put this bad boy together in an afternoon. I had some problems with the air needle blowing bubbles out [...] -
