Bad news Justen! My set up is no more! :_-(

The air check valves leaked after about 2 months of use, and water went down my tubes and destroyed my air pump!! So since my pump didn’t work, i had to transplant all the plants to soil. In fact, all the valves failed after a while, and I kept having to replace them, but the most recent one failed suddenly and destroyed my pump!!! :-(

A second issue was, my plants after a while got infected with these tiny spider mites! Being indoors, the set up doesn’t have natural predators of mites and all these things, and so the mites grew like crazy, killing one of my snow pea plants!!!

I think 2 issues need to be sorted before I start up this set up again:

1/ a natural solution to pests
2/ using a set up without air check valves in the bottle, they all fail after a while

I’d be interested to see what you think??

Are you going to be building a set up still?? I’d modify the system if I were you, I already have one modified design in my head, but yet to try it!

    Cheers!

Some important points about my set up: – I tried sealing the silicon tube through the bottle cap with some sealant used for the bathroom, but it’s quite fidgity, and still had some leaks, in the end used a LOW TEMPERATURE glue gun to seal the tube, and had no leaks! – I had [...]
