I tried to use a plastic peanut butter jar and found the type of plastic shrinks when its heated. I think this is maybe typical of a blow molding type of plastic, but I could be wrong. For some reason the plastic of the coffee cans works really well, I tried plastic bottles and they [...]

cool, it’s encouraging to know that seeds are available, I would think that if they are they would be available at one of the Asian markets I see here. I’m in Chicago so their is a good variety of people and their associated foods but I haven’t ventured into the Asian only food markets yet, [...]

I would like to know more about the availability of wild genomes of popular fruits and vegetables because of the quality of nutrition from the commercially hybridization of available plants are not as good. I do not know a great deal of Botany but I have learned that most if not all of the fruits and vegetables [...]

Well done. I looked up Kangong and it seems it’s used in fish recipes, notably in the preparation of Cuttlefish. I personally couldn’t eat such a amazingly intelligent animal but wonder what other fish it would go with. Here in the Midwest of US we are slave to our industrial food industry witch limits us [...]

These make very nice net pots that fit into 2 liter bottles. To make the coffee can into a shape that will fit into the 2 liter bottle you must re-form the plastic. To do this I created this vacuum forming device made from a plaster mold of the bottle and a cheap [...] -

Those are hinges, they let the bottom and top swivel forwards and back. The “bolts” that hold the two together are the bottle tops. So everything can be rotated, for easier access to the plants. I think this would be helpful for growing plants that will reach out and have to be supported.

I designed this based on posts here and then made this prototype, it turned out well IMO. I have been busy with other things so I haven’t gotten any further than this but I plan on making at least a few more 3 bottle strings like this one. These will be painted and all that and I will set net pots [...] -
John Elliott commented on the blog post Has anyone thought of using a “reverse siphon” 1 year, 3 months ago · View
OK, its been a while, but my original idea / design will not work. What I came to discover was that I was basically trying to re-invent the ram pump. However, the ram pump idea is a good one and I think I want to experiment with that a bit before conceding to another idea [...]

I’m moving on to second phase of feasibility test on the reverse siphon method. I have made the setup with two 5 gal buckets linked on the bottom by a 4″ pvc pipe, with the 3/8 hose on the one bucket with a sealing lid that has the CO2 tap. I will seal the one [...]

yea, I’m going for a commercial design, something that can be implemented anywhere in the world, no electricity off a grid. I can envision this on someones sale boat, some remote village or maybe after the zombie apocalypse occurs and we all have to try and survive with no power.

I was studying the designs of the system and the common thread threw all was the problem of getting the water up to start the cycle. It’s no problem if you want to just pump it up there with a pump but a big problem if you don’t want to use any energy and thus small carbon [...]
