And maybe I spoke too soon. A few weeks later as I noticed they failed to grow any more, they withered away. I just cleaned out the WF and transplanted 2 new Jalepeno plants into it. I’m drop-watering for about 30 seconds every 20 minutes with the recommended QTY of nutrients (per the bottle). Lets [...]

Looks like my cause was actually over-watering! I picked up a hacked timer off eBay for $15 and am now delivering water for 1 minute on/20 minutes off. Previously I was going 15 on 2 hours off, which was water-logging the hydroton/roots. After three weeks the plants (from seeds) are looking good.

I keep the pH between 6.4 and 7 and test every few days. The water is room temperature. Unless the pH is off, I just top up the reservoir, but never had to add more than .5 L (to a 3L reservoir) I added just water (to reduce the nutrient ratio) the last time and [...]

I was not able to find any resources via google that would show if various plants hinder/help those below them in the system. Would you have any websites or or resources I could look into? I actually have two systems now and similar issues with each. One has only a Bean plant growing and while it started growing strong, it’s starting to curl a bit. The Three-tier system I described in this post had Peas (top), Jalepeno (middle) and Lettuce (bottom)… I switched the Lettuce and Peas recently to try to give the peas more light. Do you thin I’m using too much nutrient? The bottle recommends 7.5-10mL per gallon.

Thumbnail  My plants are showing “curling” at the tips. I’m not sure exactly what I’m doing wrong here. Both plants were transplanted from soil several weeks ago and appeared to be thriving for some time (growing quite a bit since then) so I don’t believe it’s shock from the transplant. I have 2 separate systems. a 3-plant [...]

I have a three tier Windowfarm in my window. All three plants were grown from seeds placed in recycled tree-bark material in the center of the netcup/hydroton. At the top, I’m growing Peas. In the middle, Jalepenos, and on the bottom, Lettuce. They were all doing well until there was a day when the heat [...]

Thanks! I just made a small hole in the center of the caps and replaced them and now the water streams down without dripping. Great suggestion! And 2 of the 3 net cups fit perfectly by just trimming the edge of the netcup off (Easy with a scissor! Good thing I got the recycled cups [...]

Hey Everyone. After visiting the site a week or two ago, I printed out V2 and headed to a local hydroponics supplier and picked everything I needed up. I have 2 issues though, maybe someone can help. Here’s a picture of the setup: http://www.flickr.com/photos/11776347@N06/6563252967/   ISSUE 1: Water leaks. Well, it doesn’t leak, but it [...]

  • Jason Bauman commented on the blog post Reservoir size   1 year, 5 months ago · View

I am about to begin my first Window Farm (using the v2.0 plans). I was considering using a 1.5L bottle as the reservoir at the bottom to keep the width of the bottles the same (My column will be hanging from above the window rather than sitting on a sill/table.) Is this a bad idea, [...]
