We moved to a different apartment in Gresham and I will be farming a community garden instead. Out kitties won’t leave the Window Farm alone. However I am going to continue looking for a location where I can put one up. It is such a great idea. CityBounty.org has a forum now and I want to invite people from here to come share your gardening wisdom. If you live in or near Portland Oregon especially.

Hello. I am in Halifax, Canada and my water was pH of 7. I used freshwater pH test drops.

Do you recommend growing strawberries in the window farms? Which plants grow the best?

Basically anything recommended as ”perfect for pots”, although there are tons of posts of people going further…

You will also need to consider the climate where you are. I live near Seattle and herbs and greens work best here for most of the year. But if you live in a sunny area, even if it is cold, you can start making shortcake!

How can you transport water from one reservoir to the next in a continuous flow?

The V2 and 3 systems are non-stop unless you have a timer. You could do the same with the V1 setup, but it moves water a lot faster. You’d end up filling the reservoir pretty quickly.

What are the differences between the V2 and V3 systems? Which is more efficient?

Hi Tyson, yes we are still working on this, though its been slow. There are a few different groups very interested in having something like this. I can post some of the basic requirements we came up with for the system soon and you can see what aspect you might like to take on!

Yes it will be outside. I am planning to cover the entire patio with plastic at least for the winter so it will be a little bit like a greenhouse. Wind is something I hadn’t thought about. Thanks for that input. As far as filtration I am concerned about the balance of plants to fish. [...]

We started the apartment search process and I think we may have found a great place but not sure when we will get to make our move.  The apartment has a huge (and I do mean huge) wrap around patio with a fence around it and if I can get an apartment where that patio [...]

Might be possible, but I wouldn’t risk your Fiji LiveRock to try it and find out. Is there a way you could set up a small tank with some less expensive guinea pig fish? There are so many variables with saltwater aquariums I have never even wanted to try and keep one. They are expensive [...]

Hi I am excited about Window farming and also about Aquaponics though I haven’t actually done any of either. I am looking forward to a new apartment soon hopefully with a south window that I can use for a first try system. It just seems like such a perfect balanced system and I love the recycle principle in it instead of using a nutrient fluid that I would have to buy.
Seems there are those who think I should start with a basic hydroponics system. Is it possible to just go right into aquaponics? I would rather not set up something different from what I want to have in the end.
    Thanks
