    Update: something does get clogged in the small valves from time to time. I think it is the air valve that I use to control the air flow. When I do this again, I will put the air valve above the reservoir so that the water solution never reaches it.

    Julia: you got it, but for anyone else with a similar question: the water wants to be level with the top of the reservoir, so it will always be pushed above the airline.
