Ja, man kan flytte planter over.
Bare skyll bort jorda forsiktig med lunkent vann.
Grei plass for frø er impecta.seIn reply to - Christian posted an update in the group Sweden: Jag håller på att köpa delar för mitt bygge. · View
It looks like a nice idea, but how practical it is, I have my doubt about. Why not start with a simple form to define a WF, with fields for type(Hydroponic, Aquaphonic, custom), technology(V1, V2, V2mod, V3 and so on), placement(south/east/west/north) and a few other fields, with a larger description field and possibility of either [...]
If you have a pmp with 2 outlets, and are only using one, you may improve the efficiency of the pump by closing the other outlet. Just put a piece of tube on it and cclamp it shut. A lot of these pumps have two outlets for each ‘motor’ and if they run ‘unbalanced’ regarding [...]
It’s probably best for the plants to have the opening facing towards the window, but having them facing the other way makes it easier to insert and remoe plants in the WF.
The first step is to check if there’s a local group registered here.
(Up at the righthand side of the page, click on ’groups’ and browse the groups)
If there’s a group, join, then read any posts to see if anyone has recommendations for types of bottles that can be found locally and adapted, where to pick up other parts and supplies.
If no group exist, start one.
Decide which plants you want and get hold of seeds.
(There’s a lot of stores online if no one sells them locally)
Start the plants, then start assembling the WF.
Remember two rules:
1. Recycle, adapt and innovate.
(If a perfect bottle can’t be found, pick one that is plentiful and redesign the WF to use it. And don’t go out to buy bottles, use one that you would buy anyway or get for free some place. And you don’t have to get all at once. The WF can grow over time as you find more bottles and new plants to grow in them… )
2. Have fun!
Lettuce is probably the easiest to grow, bell peppers and Chilis bring great taste, strawberries makes your neighbours envious, beans give you gas…
Remember to pick short plants for your WF. Many plants seems to grow longer than specified on the seed packets in the WF. (Look for ’short’ or ’dwarf’ varieties, or ’potted’ versions)
Picking a ’normal’ variety of peas or beans that grow 3 or 4’ may not be a good idea…
Consider your herbs. Unless you use a lot of them, most would probably work just as well in a normal pot. (If you dry them to store for later use, then grow something else in the pot, or give away to friends, it makes more sense to grow them in a WF)
Rooted vegetables(carrots, beets, most radishes and so on) won’t work in a WF.In reply to - Shanita posted an update: Hi everybody, this will be my first experience with window farming! I look forward to it because I am a creative person and I love the idea of growing food or herbs right there in my kitchen window. I look forward to the maintenance of such a project as well. So, where [...] · View
You can use any size you want. The net cups are there mostly to make it easier to swap out plants. If you find smaller net cups that fits a smaller bottle, that’s good. If not, maybe some sort of yoghurt cup or other plastic cup can be holed to make a replacement net cup. [...]
The ‘large reservoir & siphons’ could work, but… Take a measurement of how much liquid you use each day. Then mark the ‘max fill’ level of the reservoir, and also the ‘low’ level. That is the max variation liquid that can happen to your large reservoir. I use about .5L on each reservoir each day(for [...]
Well, you could reduce the evaporation by completely sealing the farm in transparent plastic. Then, sooner or later, the humidity in the air inside will reach saturation and won’t be able to absorb more moisture… Whether or not your plants will survive this, though, depends on what moisture level you end up with, and how [...]
Yes, the needles are stuck into the side of the rigid tubing, and yes, thee airlines is inserted at the top and turned into a loop below the point where the needles are inserted into the airlift tube. This is basically the ‘V2 Airlift’ design. There’s also an ‘V2 Modified’ design. Then you still keep [...]
In reply to - Patrik posted an update in the group Sweden: Hej. Ny här! Unfortunately, your post is only partially readable(Nothing shows up in the blog post you commented on).
Anyway, consider the parts list and design just a suggestion as for how to build it. One user is using wine bottles he’scut the bottoms off and hung up using rope. Another was experimenting with steel funnels. A third was looking at some bowls or large cups from IKEA. I use bottles cut in half and suspended in chains.
As long as it keeps the growth media in place and protects the roots, it’s all good.
Instead of net cups you can use yoghurt or icecream cups(as long as they fit the ’bottle’ you’re using), you just have to poke them full of holes.

Could you post a picture of the relevant parts of the airlift?
Another, and much simpler solution is to place the pump higher than the reservoir.
any liquid getting past the check-valve will just collect in the loop in the tubing.
Also, it never hurts to have spares of every ’critical’ component in your WF.
(I have a spare reservoir, rigid rairlift tube, pump, valves, tubing, needles… )In reply to - Marc Spoor posted an update: Last weekend one of the valves in my window farm broke. Water dripped into the pump and broke it. I didn’t notice until late afternoon, and by then the shop where I could buy a replacement had closed for the weekend. Thankfully all plants survived the drought, but it got me [...] · View

Try spraying on a layer of gray primer first, then two coats of white paint. LEttuce is always a choice. Just pick one you like the taste of. Tomatoes and bell-peppers(I have about a dozen fruits on my 4 plants right now… ) all seems to work fine. For one reason or another, my mini [...]
The usual is to completely replace the nutrients every week or so. Longer if you only have small plants or a large reservoir, but usually no longer than two weeks. Just because there’s still some colour in the water doesn’t mean that there’s still anything usable left for the plants. The best would be to [...]
Spotted a cheap TDS meter on a website.
$11.50 including shipping worldwide.
I wouldn’t expect much in accuracy of it, but at that price…
Yes, the site is ’legit’. I’ve shopped there at least a dozen times myself. They only accept PayPal payments, though, and service if an item is temporarily out of stock really sucks. (Never buy any item listed as ’out of stock’ or ’temporarily out of stock’ as they most likely never get it in again. Any items with a lead-time of a week is also suspicious. And whatever you do, never buy memory from them.)
