Haha, hi! That would be pretty neat for people like me lacking space. I set on up with the water bottles and it seems to be working well, but I’d like to move to a reservoir to drip system to allow for more grow space.

Aquaponic Window Farms: 2 years ago · ViewI know it’s a lot of work, but I meant to point it out more that it was possible to grow terrestrial plants. Seaweed is certainly the more simple solution.
Sushi in a box? Now THAT would be convenient. -

Is this the Nate from the Aquapon Community? Elsewise, there are two Nates using towers

Nope, I’m in Phoenix.
In reply to - Emma Lysyk posted an update in the group Aquaponic Window Farms : So, this weekend, I built a 3-bed Window aquaponic farm that’s not.. in the window. Aquaponic Window Farms: 2 years ago · ViewYou could probably get away with it if you set up a desalinator (removes the salt) in a reservoir above the reservoir that drips onto your plants. Tomatoes soak up a lot of salt, but strawberries wither quickly.

Filter bags (the kind used to hold activated carbon in your motorized power filter) are enough to keep fish out of your pump mechanisms. The solidified poo can either get sucked up or left in the tank, you’ll just want to watch for fungal growth. Honestly, if you can get a sponge filter to fit over the powerhead, you’d be better off.
I put my pump’s powerhead on the side of my tank about 6 – 8” into the water so that it’s high enough and out of the way that I don’t have to worry about poo getting into it. I do the same for my larger aquaponics system.
In reply to - Tim Miller posted an update in the group Aquaponic Window Farms : I just got a 10 gallon tank set up yesterday with some fish, and am hoping to get the rest of the setup in place in the next week or so. I should probably mention that my 20 gallon tank is my breeding tank for guppies and live bearers, but I also have black neon tetras and dwarf neon rainbows. There’s a ”filter” on the pump that keep leaves out, but I have enough bottom feeders (ghost shrimp and snails) that solid poo is not an issue. My water drip is also constant, as if it were from a reservoir. I will need to get a stronger pump when I switch to a reservoir system, but for now this small system works.

I’ll post pictures later, but I used a Smartpond 30 – 45 GPH water pump from Lowe’s for my pump and leftover air tubing for my tubing (it fits inside the adapter, not on the outside). Even at max setting, it couldn’t quite make it into the flow, but I used suction through a straw to complete the flow cycle, and it’s been working beautifully now for 3 days.

Can’t wait to see it! Are you in NYC?
Nope, I’m in Phoenix.
So snails and/or ghost shrimp get rid of the solid poo? How big do the shrimp get? I have sand for substrate. Would that work for that too? I imagine for shrimp it would be no problem but I wonder about the snails…

Maybe! Depends on how many bottles I can collect by the weekend. I have a few fixes to the water supply in the big system, but this might work better for my climbers and small plants. As if this hobby wasn’t addicting enough!

The general rule for any fish is not to place them with any smaller fish that will fit in their mouth, or with fish that they will fit in their mouth
Fingerlings seem to do good with other fingerlings, but you want to keep the babies separate from the adults until they’re big enough (especially if you’re breeding them). In reply to - John Carpenter posted an update in the group Aquaponic Window Farms: Very excited about getting started as I can utilize an existing greenhouse on our property. Has anyone had any experience raising tilapia? I was wondering how compatible they would be with other fish. Thanks for any input. · View -

I do
I have an aquaponics system running on a 55 gallon tank with two grow beds. I was looking for something to attach to my 20 gallon of feeder fish and found this.I’m also a member of Sylvia Bernstein’s Aquaponic Gardening Community on Ning (http://www.aquaponicgardening.ning.com). I got the link from an article she posted on Twitter.
