If anyone is trying to source hydroton locally in Miami. There is a hydroponics supply place in Miami Lakes called Advanced Hydro Gardens. I got a 50 Liter bag for $20! If you go to their website and print out their flyer/advertisement you can remove taxes and some change. Not bad. It’s a lot of hydroton, but now I’m thinking of doing some semi-hydroponic orchid grows with my left overs or even sell my extra clay.

Looks like noodles on a plate. This be making me hungry. That is some intense root system. How much root did you leave beyond the stem?

Some have also resourced to make their own net cups out of yogurt cups or ice cream cups.

Some one here tried to put hydroton directly in the bottles without any net cups of any sort. Conclusion was that with out any net cups it promoted clogging.

ThumbnailJust wanted to let everyone know that I found a simple outdoor timer with single outlet for $1 and some change . It only has 30 min intervals, but not bad for less than $2

This is my first window farm/garden/hydroponic attempt to growing plants. I’ve based my designs of the basic v2 and v3 designs. It’s the typical hanging design where the water comes out of the bottom reservoir and connects to a tee valve with the air pump to lift.
Since I wanted to try out Brian’s suggestion for the bottle cap water planter, but I guess they only sell those in Canada. I’ve managed to poke a hole in the bottom reservoir’s cap just small enough to fit an airline tube in there snuggly. This way I’ll have more room for submergence (I think). after that I connected it to a tee for the lift and the air pump with a twisting tube up the pods, inspired by another setup here.

I originally had the adjustable valve in between the reservoir and the tee as a diagram I saw for an office setup here, but it kept leaking. I moved it to the air side and is all good.

I plan to add another column on the other side of the corner once I get a hold of a drill for another hook to put in the ceiling.

I am fortunate to have a south facing window near the ocean and can’t wait for hurricane season to start so I can start collecting rain water.

Thanks for sharing. I’m starting mine (trying to do a hybrid of v2.0 and v3.0) and was looking at your bottom pod which would be my reservoir. What did you do to seal the tubing from the bottom pod’s water bottle cap so that the water doesn’t leak and only goes through the tube going [...]
