Aquaponic Window Farms: 5 months ago · Viewno i havent, the system has cycled and stabilized itself. my crayfish have produced tons of babies, i went from originally 2 crays to approx. 60 in all different sizes. they are fed soybeans, beech leaves and carrot-leftovers from the kitchen. i have changed my system to a floodbed with the crayfish and organic liquid [...]

I am Not, someone stated that you can use coffee grounds. better for the environment too, as you have it as a wasteproduct versus destroying moor habitats.. Greetings.
In reply to - Deanne posted an update in the group Aquaponic Window Farms: Is anyone using peat to stabilize thier tank PH? · View -
I have used biodigest, a french product. Remember that you also need waste to Start the cycle. A Test Kit Is necessary to determine when its Safe to add livestock. Greetings
In reply to - Deanne posted an update in the group Aquaponic Window Farms : I had fish tanks before and the two types of beneficial bacteria are required to keep ideal water conditions in a fish tank bio filiter are the same for Aquaponics. The first type is called “nitrosomonas,” which are aerobic bacteria that convert deadly ammonia (generated by fish [...] · View -

Aquaponic Window Farms: 1 year ago · Viewok coffee grounds sound good and might not harm the fish, i will get some ph strips to test the water first though…aquarium iron supplements should be ok too i guess.
thanks for the input!

i have a small filter running on the same timer as my airpump to stir up any buildup on the bottom of the tank.. it works great, it also acts as a nitrate factory, where nitrites and ammonium are converted to nitrate. this is done to a certain degree in the pebbles in the bottle too, but if you put a pump into the tank you might as well add a small filter medium to it…
In reply to - Ian posted an update in the group Aquaponic Window Farms : I am new to the site and have only paged through the postings here a short while but it seems that some are having trouble with nutrient buildup on the bottom of their fish tank, having to resort to cleaning the fish tank themselves (which seems to [...] · View -
hey there. you do not actually need carbonfiltering, as the pebbles in the bottles act as filters themselves. the great advantages of aquaponics! for 4 columns you need quite some bioload to produce enough nutrients though!
In reply to - Benjamin Alvarez posted an update in the group Aquaponic Window Farms : I have an idea but im not sure If it will work so help me out, picture a window farm like the 3.0 with 4 plant bottles and 1 reservoir, the reservoir would be a fish tank, instead of a bottle, and I was thinking of [...] · View -

chilis and peppers grown from seeds
my nutrient producers, already reproduced themselves (lots of small crayfish), although i feed them alot they seem to produce too little nutrients as my beans have yellow leaves and lose them…
left column
bought pepperplants to the right, lemongrass and mint to the left
strawberries, bought plants. 2 more [...]Hi Mrtin, Your window looks great. I got something from a windowfarmer on the beginners site and he said that iron deficiency was common in aquaponics. I did add lights to my window and my plants are a little greener again but I am not sure what helped them. He said that chelated iron is safe for fish in small amounts, but I do not know what a small amount is, so I have just been working with the system mechanics to get it working better. My goldfish are growing.
After looking at your nutrient tank I decided to put more of my large pvc pipes and connections in my tank. The goldfish seemed to like the large pipe I had in the tank. They are finally beginning to appreciate me now that they know I am the face that feeds them. At first they ran from me.
May is the season for planting outside in this area and I am thinking of putting out some plants on the porch in large containers but I just cannot work in the outdoor garden ay more. This windowfarm is a joy to me.
Happy windwfarming. Sylvia

great idea and nice looking root covers! the double outlet for the pump is to make it possible to run another column on the same pump. runnint the windowfarm solely on water will make your plants starve. washing the veggies will only be necessary if the fertilizer touches the fruits. i use aquapnics for nutrients, check out the aquaponics group!
In reply to - tiff posted an update in the group For Beginners : Hello everyone! I am writing from Fredericton, Canada. I made my own airlift system about two weeks ago and am loving it! hey there! greetings to bulgaria from austria!
your windowfarm looks good!
1) the net pots are not necessary but they will prevent to some degree that roots grow down the bottles. also they make it more easy to change the plants that have grown too big or died without disturbing the whole setup, because with netpots you can take out the plants with their growing medium and roots at once.
2) the fertilizer looks ok, as long as it says its for vegetables and for human consumption. be sure to dilute it in water though! i do not know how much you should use per liter, but there should be information on the internet about this.
3) the airpump should be timed ON/OFF in intervals, for example run for 30 minutes, off for 30 minutes, or on for an hour, off for 30 minutes, … you can only find out what your plants want by trying out, but there are plants that love a lot of water like coriander, mint, etc and ones that can do with less. but you should let the water run in intervals, as the growing medium drys out very fast. i use a timer for this from ikea, it costs about 2 euros..
4) i bought pepper plants, already 15cm high and will report. they already have very small fruits and flowers on them. i also tried growing from seed but that takes a lot of time and is only a little cheaper. i have green peppers though, not the red ones. so far they look good and have grown. there are smaller variants that produce smaller and more fruits, you could try and buy seeds for those online.
happy windowfarming! greetings martin

i think that most plants need ph below 7 to be able to get nutrients out of the water, so 6 should be ok..
