I need help building a window farm that uses no or the smallest amount of electricity possible. Electricity is not included in my apartment complex, and I would like to keep the bill down.
I also have a plant-eating cat. Any suggestions?

The simple 3 level window farm unit using a 4 watt air pump that I have will take 0.096KWH per day (4/1000*24) or 35KWH per year. On average, I pay $0.08 per KWH so that’s $2.80 per year. This assumes the pump runs 24hours a day everyday. I run mine 6 hours out of the day so that’s $0.70 per year. Most people waste way more than that every year on misc stuff left plugged in around the house. If you add bigger pumps, lights or fans it goes up from there of course, but the math is the same if you know the watts.

Pepper is about all you can do, unless you pick up at Cat Stop
tessie i have used a combination of red pepper flakes with tabasco sauce…..make a paste put in either small containers around the plants OR make a paste spread around plants………aluminum works wonders if u put around the pots themselves………
