Well after a couple of years, I decided to remove the strawberries from the windowfarm. The crowns on them were getting very long and not sure how much longer they would survive. The crowns were growing pretty far out of the netpot. I took the plants out and broke them up and took some picture. Besides, I [...] -

Can you tell us about the nutrients and water you are using? And also what is the PH at? Getting the PH correct is very important.

If these were just transplanted, then It could be a bit of shock. Seems like strawberries take a while to get accustomed to the windows farms.

After I planted mine and they started to grow better is when I noticed the black leaf tips specifically and changing the nutrients more often helped.

I don’t think they check in here often so I would try contacting them directly. Try these. support@windowfarms.com or destiny@windowfarms.org

I hand pollinate my strawberries with a Qtip and the peppers that I have are self pollinating and I don’t do anything wirth them and they fruit. It depends on the type of plant. Plants like cucumbers have male and female flowers so you have to do the work of the bee moving pollin between [...]

Take a look at something like Jesse’s http://our.windowfarms.org/2012/01/06/my-simple-t-valve-airlift-windowfarm/ or Joha’s http://our.windowfarms.org/2012/05/16/maintenance-mode-of-a-windowfarm-in-vienna/ We have 4 cats and they like to hang out in the window with the WF. You can see 2 of them here. http://our.windowfarms.org/2012/04/15/strawberry-at-over-two-years/ They have not really bothered the plants at all, but I guess it depends on the cat. The only trouble [...]

That’s odd about the jalepenos. I hand pollinate my strawberries, but I do nothing with the peppers and they have been fruiting fine.

@frankheuij You will want to find out what types of berries you bought. The types are June bearing, ever bearing, and day neutral. Google the terms to see what they mean. Mine are day neutral because that just so happened to be what was in my backyard. These terms usually relate to the outdoor soil based [...]

Without bees or wind, chances are that the strawberry flower won’t get pollinated completely. Worst case nothing will happen or it may get partial pollinated by itself and you get a deformed berry like this. http://our.windowfarms.org/2012/04/15/strawberry-at-over-two-years/ I have been using a Q-tip to pollinate them and I have heard others using small paint brushes. Gently [...]

That does not look that bad anymore, but remember strawberries will need to be pollinated by hand

Could be too much water as strawberries do not like to be wet, but It could just be the shock of being transplanted. I am no expert, but can just share my experience with them. I transplanted a couple into a WF a few years ago from my backyard. I rinsed the dirt and put [...]
