Dear all, did discover an major communication issue where some incoming emails were being filtered as spam by our email program and were trashed. Also, many of our notifications we have sent to you have gotten trapped in your filters, which also seems to have been an issue with our emailing service. If you were [...]

Haha. Yes very good suggestion. We did just that for a while but it turned out not to be a very good business and actually not very good for the environment when all the parts shipped around. More importanstly, It did not generate enough income to fund the site costs. That is why we just [...]

Windowfarms commented on the blog post Can using plastic bottles be toxic? 1 day, 23 hours ago · View
There have been many posts on this topic and much research into it. See this thread for example. http://our.windowfarms.org/2011/12/09/plastic-contamination/ I would say that if this is one of your concerns, be sure to at least use known bpa free bottles like the ones recommended in the instructions or experiment with another material. You will find [...]

Timer settings are always something that needs to be adjusted to suit your window and no one will know better than you after some experimentation. The settings may also need to vary somewhat during different seasons and different stages of life for your plant.
Early stage plants like up to 18 hours of light per day. Adult plants can’t use much more than 14 to 16 hours of light per day and they need rest at night for root growth.
As water is concerned, it depend s on the plant type. You should feel this out depending on whether your plant is water loving or prefers dry conditions. For plants that like dry conditions, I like to try not to give them any water and measure the time until they wither. Then I shorten the cycle. For water loving plants I do the same but then cut the time in half, watering them twice as many times as they seem to ”need”. I always try to keep it on the dry side to avoid causing major issues with root rot. Keep in mind that positioning the plants root ball relative to the water stream is also important . Avoid placing the stem of your plant directly under the water flow or overly soaking any root cube you may have used to start the plant. I prefer ti pick off additional root starter material. Please report back and let us know if this worked,In reply to - Kris s commented on the blog post How long Is too long? How short is still attractive? Hey I am also curious about these questions. Right now I have my farm turned off from 8pm until 10 am and I am experiencing sluggish growth of all the plants.Actually, having just written that out I realize I need [...] · View -

No cross bar needed. Just put screws in the wall at two points and hang the loop of chain over.
In reply to - Dennis Antoine posted an update: Was wondering if anyone can guide me in finding the cross bar that hold the bottles. I totally get the beaded chain and have that , but through what does the chain pass in order to hold the bottle? · View -

This is Britta. Just wanted to chime in and say that these guys are all tossing out fantastic advice. Trimming is the best cure for transplant shock. Also, statistically I have found that about 10-20% of transplants don’t make it the first week. But generally I’ve had better luck with strawberry transplants. Also, the older [...]

Whoa. I missed this post. This is really interesting. I have found that a lot of new systems have this problem and that after they run for a while the problem just goes away. Had not thought that they might just need an interior cleaning. Really great, Brian. I’m going to try it with a [...]

Kris- Once per half hour is too much water for your plants probably. Also, we can’t see enough about how you have your air tube installed to help you troubleshoot. Please provide some additional images or video so we can see how you have it set up in there. Finally, please type troubleshooting into the [...]

There’s a group for this. Joining it and using the forum there would be the best way to move this forward and to have everyone start collaborating. http://our.windowfarms.org/groups/homemade-nutrients/ Its interesting that so many people were excited about this post but did not find the group. Should I rename the groups so that it is easy [...]
