Hey everyone! Just found the excellent TED talk on window farms and living in a 2nd story apartment decided to take on building one as part of my final project for my coursera.org class on sustainability. What are you growing in your window farms? I would like to do a 2 column farm, lettuce, peas, swiss chard, strawberries and thought about trying green beans even though they aren’t recommended. If anyone in Dayton area wants to get together to assemble theirs with me I would welcome the help!

How do you deal with the cold window problem? I would think a heat lamp for the water would just make the water warm for a short period of time then it would become cold again not solving the issue. help
This is my first year trying a windowfarm, but I’ve been wondering about the cold window problem as well. To start, I think what I’m going to try is the plastic wrap-like window insulator kits.

We actually live in Michigan, about an hour’s drive north of Detroit. Is there anyone out there near us? We’re brand new and just trying to figure things out.

Just joined the site. I had an organic 2 acre farm and just had to relocate for my husbands job. I was wondering if there are videos I can watch to show how to set up the system. Im going to do verticle as well as horizontal growing.

In the Cleveland area, I cannot find 1.5 liter bottles from Nestle Waters — not in our market. Are other Ohioan having the same challenge? What are you using instead?
They don’t have to be from Nestle. I used PC branded bottles and that worked fine. But if you really can’t get 1.5 litres, try going for 1L and reducing the size of the net cups.
50oz equals approx 1.5L
33oz equals approx 1.0L
