Ik zit erover te denken om een windowfarm te beginnen, maar ik vraag mij een paar dingen af.

Ten eerste… is het financiëel een beetje rendabel? Ik snap dat het een investering is, maar hoe lang duurt het voordat je die eruit hebt? Of gebeurt dat nooit?

Ten tweede… kun je wel grotere planten laten groeien? Op plaatjes zie ik alleen maar kleinere plantjes. Een beetje (cherry)tomatenplant past niet in zo’n fles toch? Dingen als kropsla en broccoli ook niet. Moet je dan allemaal mini-groentes kiezen?

Ten derde… in hoeverre kan je in je eigen groentebehoefte voorzien? Als je een fles oogst (groente voor 1 of 2 dagen?), dan duurt het weer een paar weken/maanden voor je weer kunt oogsten. Stel dat je 3 flessen hebt, dan heb je toch maximaal maar voor één week per maand groente? Of valt dat mee?

Ik hoop dat iemand mijn vragen wil beantwoorden. Alvast bedankt!

Ik lees in sommige posts over transparante slangen. Ik heb ze ook gebruikt, maar er vormen zich razendsnel algen (en die gebruiken massa’s zuurstof uit het water), dus minder transparante of ondoorzichte slangen zijn beter. Wel jammer, want dan kun je het water minder goed omhoog zien schieten. Voor nu blijf ik de transparante gebruiken, volgend jaar maar over op de ondoorzichtige slangen.

In Nijmegen is het water overigens keihard, dus aan de binnenkant van mijn PET-flessen vormt zich al een mooi laagje kalk… Iemand een idee of gedemineraliseerd water of aqua purificata ook goed voor plant is? Uiteindelijk voeg je er toch zelf voedingstoffen aan toe, dus wat mineralen/zouten minder zal wel niet zo heel erg zijn toch?

YES! My windowfarm is working . Down here I will write down where I found all my materials.

Bottles: I used bottles of Ice tea and Spa red. The Icetea were not that great because the netcpus didn’t fit in properly, they were too small so I had to make them a bit smaller (they have a standard section). The Spa red were perfect.

Paint: I bought red spray paint at the Woenselse markt (saturday market of Eindhoven) for 1 euro.

Pump: I got a pump that pumps 165 ltr/h, more than enough. I bought it at a pet store (with aquariums!) close to the Woenselse markt for 16 euro’s.

Tubes: I couldn’t find stiff tubes, so I used normal ones. Now my window farm is working on tubes of 4mm ID and 6mm OD, but I want to get it working on 6mm ED and 9mm OD. The tube I use now I bought at the pet store. But yesterday I went to the Plan it Eindhoven, a tip from Burt down here. They have an amazing collection of tubes of different sorts and sizes. Here I bought my 9mm OD tube. You can buy in meters of a role. They have transparent, greent/transparent and somewhere else in the store I also found black. I bought transparant, because I like to see the bubbles flow, but I can imagine with algae people will prefer the green or black ones. It costed me 0,50 a meter. Seeds: The mint and basil I got from my friend Bram, at his place the basil is growing like hell. The koriander I finally found at the supermarket for 1,60…..
I saw that Ikea sells packages for growing your own herbs. They come with 3 cups, 3 cocotables and seeds for 3 euro’s. They also sell big blocks of that cocostuf

Netcups: My friend Bram had some netcups left over, so he gave them to me. He bought them in a shop which sells stuf for growing your own weed. I thought he called it the growshop, somewhere between Eindhoven and Tilburg.

Cocotables (or however you call them). Small tablets which expand when you add water to it. They are great to let your seeds grow and then plant them with the small piece of dirt in your windowfarm. You can order them everywhere on the internet. I get them again from my friend Bram. He bought them piece by piece at the growshop.

Nutrients: I finally bought biological nutrients for spices and vegetable of the brand DCM, about 7,50 euros. I preferred biological because the stuff will drip over my spices all the time, and of course because it is better for your environment. It looks like soy sauce, the smell color and thickness. So I got light brown water now which I’m not totally satisfied with… My friend Bram found at the Growshop nutrients especially for hydroponics, these are seeing through and his plants grow amazing.

Clay pellets: Also leftovers from my friend. The Plan it shop also sells small boxes of it ( I thought about 4 euro’s).
