Environmental Impact Testers
Public Group active 5 months, 4 weeks agoThis group is testing the theory that windowfarming provides a lower carbon footprint avenue for urban dwellers to procure some of their own food. We think windowfarming may produce more calories of food compared to calories of energy used than industrial agriculture does . . . if not now, then in the future. We are 1) determining a baseline environmental impact of default urban food sources for comparison 2) testing environmental impacts of windowfarms from component sourcing to power draw, 3) documenting our findings for the community so that alternatives can be found for any problem areas within windowfarming.

Environmental Impact Testers: 1 year, 5 months ago · ViewOne more point to consider; will we be including other greenhouse gases in our combined footprint? I’m talking mainly about the NOx produced from nitrogen fertilisers in agriculture and any methane etc. produced by composting to make nutrient solutions to feed window farms.

Environmental Impact Testers: 3 years ago · ViewTo accurately measure the amount of energy used to produce food in a window farm in comparison to the amount used to produce food for the grocery, you’ll have a lot of factors to take into account. First of all, you’ll need to decide if you’re going to count recycled materials towards the footprint or [...]
