Just got a Windowfarm kit. Still scavenging around for the bottles. If anybody has some extras, please let me know.

Hi, I just started my windowfarm project! I’m a Sustainable Urban Environments student at NYU Poly in Downtown Brooklyn. I’m trying to build a 3 plant system for my dorm room and if all goes well, I’m hoping to get the Residence director to help me make a community system for a whole floor of the dorms. I just went to Brooklyn Farms (http://shop.bkfarms.com/) which was really helpful. they had all i needed and the guy working there had actually tried to build a window farm a few times, so he knew some tips. next I’m off to the hardware store and I guess Petco for the air pump. I’m planning on growing leafy plants like bok choy and mint first. does anyone recommend any place for getting seeds or seedlings for that kind of stuff?

Hello! Yesterday I attended Do Tank’s Urban Agriculture workshop in Williamsburg with my girlfriend. We downloaded the WindowFarm Version 3.0 instructions and today we’re setting out to get started.
We decided to start our seedlings from scratch to prevent bringing any unwanted critters into our apartment. We found a local florist/garden shop in Williamsburg that sells heirloom seeds; we’re heading there today to buy some.
I’ve seen a hydroponic store off the LI Expressway in Queens, so tomorrow I will stop there to pick up some of the supplies for our windowgarden. As far as bottles are concerned, we hope to raid our building’s recycling early tomorrow morning (with the help of the building’s Porter).
We also plan to start composting in our apartment, but we need some worms first. We are both very excited about doing something to help reducing our impact on the city and the planet!

Brooklyn: 1 year, 7 months ago · ViewHas anyone actually made one that I can come take a look at? I have some outdoor gardens going, but I’m curious to try this. I have a small kitchen window that I can fit a 3X3 setup in – 3 bottles across, by 3 down.
I have questions! -

So here’s a question for those that have systems up and running: what’s the yield? Approx how much does your garden grow for the size of your setup?
