Ordered the 4 column system instead of just building it myself so I could save some time. I want to focus on the lighting system by designing highly efficient LEDs and learning all about the various plants and growth cycles. Has anyone been to The Boston Gardener? ”The Boston Gardener is Boston’s first complete hydroponic supplies and organic gardening supply center.”

Would a Greater Boston window farmer be willing to give a starving writer a tour of your window garden for both a) personal interest / a possible garden of my own and b) a potential story? Drop me an email if so: steve at thebostonwriter dot com

Hello! My husband and I recently moved from Minnesota to the Cambridge/Somerville area and are excited to learn how to make our first windowfarm. We’ve been frequenting local farmer’s markets for the time being (mostly Copley Square), but we’re ready to make the jump toward growing our own food. Can’t wait!

Our plants are growing away yet no sign of veggies so far. I am thinking my tomato and okra will require a transplant to a traditional pot eventually due to how large they’ve gotten already.
You might be surprised at how much root density you can sustain utilizing drip hydroponics, without aggregate between the roots they really nestle together. I had two tomato plants growing in half of a wine bottle that produced a few tomatoes, my biggest issue was a lack of light, not root-lock, they got a solid 3-4’ tall: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oxgaNTKlP48/TdvWalCVScI/AAAAAAAAAV8/t4pq47z1DCU/s1600/IMG_6299.JPG sorry for the bad picture, it was a little rushed at the time haha.

Hello! This is GREAT! Looking forward to finding a better use for all these plastic bottles I seem to accumulate.
