Hi Brian, thank you for your reply. Can you explain to me why less voltage would burn out a pump? When its even rated for 6-12V? Its in like total contrast to what i would think. -less voltage equals: less speed, less wattage means less engergy consumed, less speed, less heat development…. Also do you [...]

Matt, would you like to give my new airlift method a try in your rubbermaid? It would be an ideal place to try it and report your results to the community. You just need some bendy wire (like a coat hanger) to attach the tube to. I used either twine or rubber bands. You do [...]

Hi, lax123. Absolutely do not reduce the voltage! That is an excellent way to burn out pumps. There are many reasons for using airlift pumps and one reason is that they deliver the “right” amount of water to the plants. That isn’t 4 litres per minute. Perhaps more like 2 litres per hour. Your water [...]

yes, the bottle’s neck blocks more light than a bead chain and i have no interest in bothering to do the prep work involving glass especially when i can get high quality terracotta pots for $1.99 each. although i don’t get much direct sunlight, when i do during the summer it is blazingly hot. i [...]

“Is anyone else growing swiss chard?” im not but i guess you should search for optimum pH for those chard plants…. “I have found that I use the pH up way more than the pH down. ” oxidation of biomass and the breathing of the roots result in an increase of carbonic acid, some plants [...]

Hi, “glass = more work + not 100% opaque for the roots” u sure it affects the plants even if its tinted glass? I read even with white glass the plants would grow, but more slowly (results from people starting new plants in whiteglass tested that in darker glass (like winebottles) the roots grow faster. [...]
