I have finally completed my windowfarm, and transferred my baby plants! So far it was neat watching the plants grow from seeds. I hope they bear fruit. I have 2 spinach plants, 2 different tomatoe plants, 3brocolli plants, and 3 mint plants, and 1 lettuce plant! I used the air T-lift system to get the water pumped to the top.

@afernandez23 Hi Arelys, It looks good. My plants are in a window that does not get good sun and my tomatoes would not finish setting on properly. I spoke with a local nursery grower and he said that tomatoes need LOTS OF LIGHT to so when I put my tomatoes back in I hope to move to a better window or add more lights to this window. I love my basil – mint – oregano. Happy Windowfarming. Sylvia USA
@sylviawoerner Thanks! My plants are in a south facing Window that get plenty of light despite being in an apartment building, in downtown Hartford, Connecticut. And if it’s not enough light, because of cloudy days such as these past few days, I have two “grow lights” in between the columns, that I leave on for 13 hours. I hope the plants make it through their first week. I REALLY hope they bear fruit and I can get a healthy harvest! This has been exciting for me, and inspiring to others. I work at my local food bank in helping to end hunger and was trying this out to see if it could be used by the very individuals we help. It is a work in progress!
Hi again, Years ago I lived in Rhode Island, but am in Indiana now where there are lots of farmers around, that sure know their growing business. The windowfarm is almost weed free and I just learned that my favorite plant Basil, is an excellent anti-inflamatory. So more pots with Basil are going up.These will be from seed. The Organic aspect is another big plus for me. I wish you wonderful success. Sylvia Manchester Indiana USA
Are window farms actually able to support the size and weight of a tomato plant or a broccoli plant?
@Debby Yes. However I think itdepends on where or what you are hanging your Windowfarm. I have seen other Windowfarmers on this site successfully grow tomato plants. I’ve seen some incredible trellissing work because of it too.
I have yet to see any broccoli plants grown in Windowfarms and since I love it, I am giving it a go. I have a co-worker who is an expert gardener and he says that growing broccoli is a bit ambitious. He also doubts that the tomato plants would grow any fruit because tomatoes need alot of light. I say game on!
I live in the city, downtown Hartford CT. So I understand where his doubts of sunlight come in, but I have faith. My Windowfarm is on a south facing window, and since winter has arrived here, I have two grow lights on for 13 hours a day. My plants seem very happy, and so I am happy.
I haven’t had a moment to post updates, but will try to do so this weekend.
