Moisture Sensor

Hi,
I’ve want to set up a fully automatic window farm with a micro controller so that whenever the rockwell cube with the plant in it gets dry, the pump turns on. Does anyone know if a regular soil moisture sensor works in rockwell? Thank you.
It sounds like a great idea. I have no idea if it will work.
Report on how it goes! I am very curious.
The best of luck to you!
Thanks for the input. As I understand, the majority of the plants roots are in the clay pellets around the rockwell. If this is the case, would the moisture level of the rockwell be an accurate summary of how moist the plants roots are?
Sorry for all the questions.
Thank you.
Very possible. Just depends how far you want to take the project.
Some links for you:

Thanks for those links. However all the moisture sensors I saw in there were only for soil. Do you know about anything that will work for clay pellets? Thanks.
You’d want the probes in the rockwool, not the clay pellets. The pellets retain moisture but only to a point. You’d have a lot of issues with the sensor otherwise. There is too much air around the pellets.
From what I’ve seen, the rockwool tends to stay moist for much longer than the clay pellets. Also, most of the plant roots are in the clay pellets. Therefore, would measuring the rockwools moisture levels be an accurate measure of the plant roots moisture?
Thank you.
