MANY THANKS, DAISY, for your inspiration. Just after I took down my aquaponic system Daisy’s post came on. This is how I worked it out for my window with the soil and the bottles I have available. I do need it to make things easier for now. After knee surgery I hope I can get my aquaponic setup back in place. The red drinking cups, filled with soil, have holes drilled in them so that the water leaches up through the soil and into the roots. The plants are low enough so that water can be poured into the cut off pop bottles without stepping on a ladder. The plants are spearmint - basil - a small aloe vera plant – thume – greek oregano and hot n’ spicy oregano. It looks like this soil uses more water than my aquaponic system. Interesting!!! Happy windofarming. Sylvia Indiana USA
I would love to see real pictures with your set-up. Whan you have time, maybe you can make some. I’m still in the project fase with my setup, because of the lack of time.
Be careful with the quantity of water you let the plants have, bacause they don’t know when to stop drinking, so they can drown. That is why i thinked of the material strips to absorb water, instead of letting the bottom of the plant in water. I read that in several sources on the internet.
@daisywindowfarm Thanks for the information. I have let the pots go dry for a while but I will be more careful now that you have mentioned the problem of drowning. Next week when I have time, I plan to put the material into the bottles to absorb the water.
My cell phone camera will not work with my computer and when my son comes over he takes pics with his camera and puts them on for me. With my bottles and setup already done it was not hard for me to put this up. Good luch with getting your system up. Happy windowfarming. Sylvia
