Dust from clay pellets
2:29 pm in made from scratch (without a kit), posts with pitcures!, Water flow by Natalia Medina
In my windowfarm I have chosen to use clay pellets. Before putting the pellets in the bottles I washed them to get rid of all the dust, but apparently not thoroughly enough. Dust from the clay have gradually come loose and clogged the system.I don´t know if there are different qualities of clay pellets. But I have bought different brands in different price ranges and there has always been with both dust and small pieces of broken pellets.
Now that I bought new pellets, I have washed and washed and washed to be sure to remove all loose particles.
Lesson learned:
When you think you’ve washed enough, wash some more.

@natalia What a Bummer – The EXPANDED CLAY PELLETS I have purchased here near home have never given me any problems. No long rinse either, I just ran water till the flow was clear. Did this happen in your T system? Sylvia Manchester Indiana USA
@natalia I do recall hearning some people speak of cleaning their system often, but I have not had to do that very often myself. Sylvia
@sylviawoerner Hi! The water looked clear, but when I opend one bottle to se what was wrong I found that the cork was filled with dust. Now i have replaced the dripping system and tried to clean the dust away. Hopefully that is enough. The pump has been running for a few days now and the water looks clear.
I cleaned mine using a bucket and just washed them clean. I do see some residue when it goes through the system but not as much as you are seeing. It looks like yours got crushed.
