My new Windowfarm

I built my Windowfarm 2 weeks ago, I started from seeds and the plants have grown very well!
I did some things differently, I simplified the reservoir bottle cap and improved a bit on the way the inflation needle sits in the water tube to make it more stable and to not let the air escape into the bottle.
It’s all in the video ![]()
Awesome! I’m still gathering supplies to make my first one. :3
Congratulations! I watched your video and your green peas are looking good! (they grow so fast!) I built mine around the same time you did (it’s my Christmas project). I started growing some lettuce seeds and it’s been germinating quite nicely, but not as big as yours. just wondering, how often do you water your plants and how long?
Great video! I had done some peas one time and the root traveled down into my resevoir so let’s see how yours behave. Whaty kind of window is that as it does not seem that clear?
The window is not ideal, its blurry and you can’t see outside without opening it. It does filter a lot of the potential light I could be getting but most days the sun shine very brightly even in the winter and my room gets very bright during the day with all the windows closed, The plants look like they are doing well and I hope they continue.
Should I remove them and leave just one in each bottle? Can they grow together or would they smother each other?
@joedhoe You might need some type of trellis for the peas to climb out and you can train them so they are not on top of each other. I had four pea plants in a net pot once and I though it worked out ok. Maybe you can experiment with one plant in one of the pots and leave the rest with four.
for the first week I watered them once for 15 minutes every hour and for the second week I did the same thing during the day and 15 min. once every 2 hours at between 20:00 and 6:00 during the night and I am still using this timing, just a few days after making that movie and they have gotten a lot bigger!! Still no nutrients though I gave them some liquid fertilizer when I made the movie (before that it was only tap water!!) but I am still waiting for the nutrients to arrive by mail.
Great job on the documentation!! I think this video deserves an award of some kind. Super high five!!
You also get a bunch of bonus points for how many things you did so creatively with little things around the house. My favorite is the CD-as-a-spacer.
I am also really excited to have seen your coco coir technique for seed planting. I gave up on coco coir a long time ago because I figured it would flake out and trickle down into the reservoir and clog up the tubes. Is it staying put?
I think yours is the first system in which I’ve seen the documentation of seed germination in the windowfarm. Looks like it worked well.
Congrats.

Thank you very much!! I am glad you enjoyed it!!
As for the coco coir, it is staying put none of it fell through. i did have to expand the holes in the bottles to be able to remove the pots in order to trim the roots since they were coming through all the bottle caps twice already!! the extra volume of the roots in the pots pushed everything in the pots upwards and upon removing the pots i did drop a few pellets in the bottles but no coco stuff!! since then I have also added string to the pots to easily lift them up to remove them.
I am seeing pea pods popping out already!!
Is this common?
I feel like one of those people who are the only ones in their circle of friends with kids who are excited and brag about everything there child accomplishes but no one else really cares about, only with my plants
