Shading CFL bulbs
5:09 pm in Completed Window Farms, electronic components, questions, Seeking Advice, Version 3.0 Modular Airlift Columns by David Sonenberg
I recently got my 2 column farm set up. I have to CFL’s hanging between the columns but have found that they are quite bright, and blind you if you look to close to them. I tried cutting up a plastic cup to just shade the back 1/4 of them not facing the plants, but the cups started to melt. Has anyone attempted doing anything like this, or have any ideas?
Have you seen this post? Maybe it will work for you? http://our.windowfarms.org/2010/04/05/diy-reflector-for-cfs/
I didn’t work for me as the can got way too hot after just two minutes.

I used cardboard and tin foil to make a reflector. Using metal might be the problem..
get different grow lights. if they’re producing that much heat, they’re eating a lot of lectricity. plants only need two colors in the spectrum; red and blue. invest in some cooler colred flourescents or LED’s.
