Smaller Bottles

Hi Everyone, I’ve just signed up and looked at the DIY window farm, can anyone tell me if you can use smaller bottles as Ive only read about people using 1,5 l bottles. I have a rectangle window in my kitchen and would like to have 3 bottles as a decor statements…any suggestions?
You can use any size you want.
The net cups are there mostly to make it easier to swap out plants.
If you find smaller net cups that fits a smaller bottle, that’s good.
If not, maybe some sort of yoghurt cup or other plastic cup can be holed to make a replacement net cup.
If you don’t think you’ll need the option of swapping out plants, all you’ll need is something in the neck of the bottle to keep the clay pellets from falling out.
The main issue as I see it is to have enough dark, drainable space for the roots to grow. If you can do that with a bottle smaller that 1.5 litre, I’d be interested in hearing about it.
Thanks guys, I’ll keep you posted.
I also had trouble finding this bottles in the Bethlehem area of PA. but I couldn’t wait to build my first farm so I bought 1 liter bottles that have the same curve of the 1.5Ls. The difference is the about of room for the roots to grow. I’m still waiting for clay pellets and other supplies to get a real farm going, but I got the plumbing to work just fine with the smaller bottles. I would assume that smaller plants like herbs would be just fine in the smaller bottles but I would think that tomatoes or larger root system plants would eventually out grow the 1L bottles. I recently found the 1.5 L bottles at a small grocery store called Casels while on vacation at Margate NJ. I thought it was funny how the site makes it sound like these size bottles are floating around in very recycling bin.

If you really want the round bottles of 1.5 L try Asian or Hispanic markets. Most foreign sodas come in this size. I buy a coconut water soda in this size at my local Hispanic market, I’m in the Washington DC area.
