2 lettuces in 1 pot at 19 weeks

I though it was interesting how these two plants grew so differently. Both are in the same pot, but one stayed nice and compact and the other one grew around the first and really stretched out. Once it started to stretch it continued to stretch. We have been picking leaves off of both for awhile now. You can see from the small brown marks where we have taken leaves. The one that stretched out has run into the ceiling on my bay window and actually is starting to flower now. I’ll be cutting it down soon and I’ll leave the compact one going. There are no signs of flower on this one yet.

Why cut it down?
Why not let it flower off? Maybe you’ll end up getting some seeds from it…
Wow ! This surely proves that plants, just as any living being, are individuals. Such a difference between both plants !
I’ve never let lettuce grow that long. Very cool..
Holy S***! That is the biggest lettuce plant I’ve ever seen in my life. Nice. Growing two plants in one pot seems to work out well!
Growing two in one pot is actually not such a good idea, unless it’s peas or beans.
The plant nearer to the window doesn’t have to bolt because it’s getting the lion’s share of the available light -
in March, that is, which is why there aren’t any flowers developing very quickly.
