Upside Down Window Farming?

Here is an article from the NYT about regular upside done gardening: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/20/garden/20tomato.html.
Has anyone considered trying something like it?
I feel like this would be an even more efficient use of space, you could grow fruiting plants out of the bottom and herbs out of the top of any bucket or bottle.
The main problem that people have with it is keeping plants hydrated enough, but I don’t foresee that being a problem in a hydroponic system.
If people have figured out how to keep soil from falling out of the bottom, clay pellets as a medium should be a problem either.
The one problem I do see is keeping the water dripping inside of the system, instead of flowing down the plants and onto the floor. Maybe a trellis of some sort would solve this problem.
Any thoughts?
Well, the water flowing out of the bottom in a standard WF would use the sprout as a wick, probably resulting in it rotting away after a short while.
But we’ve already seen the one plant-bottle modded to accomodate two plants, so feel free to try out putting in even more plants further down the sides !
Yea, or you could try getting something like a poster tube and cutting a lot of holes down it’s sides to replace the bottles, making the vertical part of the farm a single piece, and allowing you to put the plants right on top of each other.
not sure if you get any added efficiency with this seeing as how you are mostly limited by the window cut-out and any plant you grow will stretch to fill that space.
My guess is that if you have something that’s at least a 1.5L or bigger jug that you could make a large enough window to accommodate an upside down plant. I would try something stalky like Basil for this, though.
