Compact 3-Plant Airlift in Gothenburg/Sweden

Hi fellow farmers,
the space on my windowsill became crowded, so I decided to build a Window Farm in order to use the previously fallow vertical space. The requirements were, that it should not take up much horizontal space and not be too ugly to have as a permanent solution.
Here is a quick walk-through:
The airlift is made of 2 T-pieces joined by 10mm tube. The upper T-piece is crammed into a 9mm tube. The ends of the air tubes are taped to enlarge their diameter. An air pump for 150-400 L aquariums is to be found at the other end. This construction pumps up to 2 meters if submerged deeply enough.
The water tank is a 600×170 mm Vase from a plant shop. It saves precious horizontal space while ensuring a decent depth for the airlift. And it can stand in a central place in my apartment without insulting the onlooker’s eye too much.
PET-bottles server as plant holders, although no plants have moved in yet (volunteers can be seen to the left of the farm in the image below). The entire construction is strapped and taped to an extensible shower curtain rod which is stuffed vertically into the corner of the window. The rod is behind the bottles on the picture below and not visible to the untrained eye.
The entire construction can be admired below:
There are still some problems that the construction spills water, especially the second bottle. I will fix this by cutting holes into a cap and screwing it on the first bottle, so that the water is directed into the bottle.
Please feel free to leave comments, questions, inspirations!

One of these vases would be perfect for my system, I have to find one
.
You may get problems with algae if the vase stand unprotected from the sunlight in the window.
Do you get at good water-flow even when the airlift isn’t completely straight?
Very nice!
I especially like the shower curtain rod used as the vertical brace.
Looks good
Indeed, nice work so far. If the colour’s too far off for you taste some day, you can always paint the lower parts of the bottles white or get some white tape, and some white tubing as well.
As for the wall plug – see here

Thanks for the comments! I will keep you informed, whether the shower curtain rod really was a good idea.
I have been researching air lift pumps and your design is a variation on what I proposed. http://our.windowfarms.org/2010/04/11/alternate-air-pump-performance-data/ So, I have a few questions. How did you come to have 2 tees? Does it increase the flow or height compared to 1? Is that a dual output air pump with each output line going to a tee? What are the specifications on the air pump, pressure (psi or pa) & air flow (cfm or lpm)?
The vase was a great idea! I was having trouble getting the water from the reservoir to reach the top of my airlift system but lo and behold, after purchasing a vase which allowed for a heightened water level, no more problem! Thanks for posting.
