I recently picked up a 2011 edition of Urban Farm Magazine (July/August 2011) and read about the Windowfarms Project. I was really impressed with the concept and all the work done over the last many months by Britta Riley and the R & D-I-Y’ers. The open source community is remarkable and certainly a model for collaborative problem-solving.

It was great to learn that kits will be available shortly. I am not much of an engineer and celebrate the fact that my good intentions will not be derailed by my clumsiness. Looking forward to the delivery of my four column kit next month…cannot wait to get started!

Check out the new group called “Windowfarm Kits-What’s New?” It’s a meeting place for all of us kit farmers to come together and, hopefully, contribute to the open source community just like the R & D-I-Y’ers who paved the way for us. Meet you there!!!

Hi Everyone,
I watched a TED video about this and decided what a great idea and I just love anything ‘open source’.
I have a lot of ideas about how to do some things for free, like clockwork air pumps and plastic tube recovered from the outer part of old clothes lines. The challenge for me is to be growing things for virtually no cost. I look forward to sharing ideas with you all.

I just read about this and very excited to get started in a few weeks, I have tried to start my own garden here twice and it didnt work out even when I tried Miracle Grow that is pretty bad huh : ) , I am looking forward to having a garden that grows and I can enjoy!! Thank You!!!

Haribol! I just found this on Yahoo! and I’m so excited because I’ve been wanting to grow my own salads in the winter in my windows. We eat a ton of salad greens and it can get very expensive this time of year.

Just found out about this today. I volunteer my time at an elementary school and plan on setting one up in the classroom. I think this is an excellent way for the kids to learn while doing. Thanks for such an innovative idea.

Hi everyone
I have just started an aqua-ponics system at my work ( that is where i spend most of my time, unfortunately :~)), and am very exited to be able to outsource everything I learn on this project, and all my projects. My second step to a self sustainable off-the-grid-lifestyle. I believe that all things good for humanity should be open sourced!! I hope I can help and learn on this site :~)
